Stories & Poems about Dr. Doig

Team Message For Cheryl

Written by Lynnette Hurley

Oh Cheryl, beloved leader
Our principal’s leaving,
The kids, parents and teachers
They are all left grieving

I’ve asked of your colleagues
To provide clues for this rhyme
As to what really goes on
At this school all the time

You do not work alone here
No - It takes a whole bunch
To keep this school working
And hubby to make your lunch

You think you’d appreciate
Such a major privilege
But no - you get the cleaner
To remind you they’re in the fridge

Great man David also irons
Makes your clothes so pristine
So in the playground at all hours
You can be proud to be seen

And a number of your staff
Well they just had to fess up
They seriously do share in
Your passion for dress up

But one thing they can’t cope with
They’ve exclaimed – ‘oh good grief!’
Could you do something about
Those horrible fake teeth?

A golden goose in your office
For yourself to remind
That without that golden goose
No golden eggs you will find

And bursting into song
If you were to set your heart on
A career in music
There’d be a nervous Dolly Parton

Monday evenings with PTA
Just another thing you do
Missing Desperate Housewives
Or in that room with us - are you?!!

The neighbour’s cat – it will miss you
No more earrings to play with
Who on earth will poor Millie
Spend the long day with?

You’ve loved and protected
Kept this kitten from harm
But you may have not felt loving
When it set off the alarm

And a nippy silver sports car
That looks great, never dirty
Quite the thing to run about in
For a woman, just over thirty

An open-door policy
Oh yes – open wide
But if that door’s ever shut
Feel sorry for who’s inside

And someone approached me
I can’t remember the fellow
Wanted me to make mention
Of a brain that is yellow

In dealings with property
Of the school needing painting
Thoughts of sewer pipes and ramps
Has you nearly fainting

‘Forward thinker’, ‘creative’
A runner of the Buller half
An inspiration to our tamariki
Showing them a good path

‘Community’, ‘colour’
‘Sky’s the limit’, ‘empowering’
Descriptions all flattering
With compliments showering

‘Loves practical jokes’
‘Has vision’, ‘sense of humour’
But finds mistakes in Meynell’s grammar?
Surely that’s just a rumour

For some I’d not believe it
I’d have to be a bit concerned
But I know first hand with you Cheryl
These comments are well earned

We are all sad you are leaving
You are leaving a huge space
But we know because you’ve been here
Fendalton School’s a better place

You're kind and helpful.
You make the school like a flower.

Makes good decisions.
